Abermain Eisteddfod Society secretary Moya Waters said it was with a "very heavy heart" that the organisers made the decision to cancel the public eisteddfod, which was due to start at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on September 19.
The schools section of the eisteddfod, which was set down for August, was called off mid-July.
It is the second year in a row the 104-year-old eisteddfod has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.
With the NSW lockdown to run until at least September 10, and even if the lockdown was lifted in Cessnock then, Ms Waters said there was "no way of knowing after that date any restrictions that will still impact the smooth running of the eisteddfod".
"Please know that this decision was not taken lightly and every effort has been made to do whatever was possible for our eisteddfod to go ahead this year," Ms Waters said.
"As always, the heart of our eisteddfod is for our competitors, parents and teachers, so as you can imagine, our dedicated committee members are all extremely disappointed that our plans for an exciting 2021 have once again been dashed."
The Hunter Valley Art Fair - which was set to take place at Pokolbin Community Hall on the October long weekend - has also been cancelled, as has the Town of Murals Art Show, which was due to be held at Kurri Kurri High School the same week.
