Matthew finished the season on 282 points, with Sternbeck's Real Estate second on 270 and Cessnock Plaza News & Gifts in third place with 268.
A Newcastle Knights fan, Matthew said he really enjoyed this NRL season.
"It gave us something positive to watch and talk about during this challenging COVID period," he said.
"I have enjoyed the rule changes which has made a faster more exciting game to watch.
"Actually tipping with my head not my heart has helped even if it meant not backing the mighty Knights.
"I really encourage other businesses to get involved next year."
In the reader tipping comp - which ran across 10 ACM mastheads in the Hunter and Mid-North Coast - Tim Palmer of Camden Haven was the overall winner with 298 points.
Peter Andrews and Carol Dunn were Cessnock's highest-placed tipsters, finishing equal fourth on 288 points.
The Advertiser is planning to run the feature again next year, with great prizes up for grabs for businesses and individuals. To register your interest, email donna.honeysett@austcommunitymedia.com.au.
