The ministerial advisory group provides young people aged 12 to 24 from rural and regional NSW with a unique opportunity to meet with government and inform decision-making that will have flow-on benefits for their communities.
Cessnock's Isabella Metcalfe was on the 2021 taskforce and said it was a "life-changing experience", and encourages any young person who has ideas and views on issues impacting young people in regional NSW to apply.
"I have been very passionate to advocate for change and improved services, especially in the areas of mental health, drug and alcohol and youth crisis, for our local community and at state level," said Isabella, who also won the Maree Callaghan Award for Young Female Achiever at Cessnock's 2021 Australia Day awards.
"The taskforce is a unique and invaluable initiative for youth to have their voices heard to steer policy and deliver real change and practical benefits for regional youth.
"Participation not only provides many opportunities to engage, learn and be involved with projects to improve regional NSW, importantly this space nurtures personal growth, self-development and greater understanding of the needs of others."
The 2022 taskforce will comprise 18 members, with two members representing each of NSW's nine regions, and will meet four times throughout the year either online or in person.
Minister for Regional Youth Bronnie Taylor said the taskforce gives young people the chance to champion local causes and play a part in making decisions that will help drive change in their regional town.
"As we continue to navigate the path to recovery from COVID-19 restrictions, floods and bushfires, now is the perfect time to throw your hat in the ring and be a part of making life better for young people in your community," Ms Taylor said.
"We know the issues faced by young people in Dubbo are different to the issues faced by their peers in Grafton, which is why we want a diverse membership that represents every corner of the bush.
"It's easy to apply, simply fill out the form and create a short video on your phone or write a short piece telling us about who you are and what the most important issues impacting young people in your part of the state are.
"The 2021 Taskforce has met to discuss a range of issues, including consulting with the Department of Education on how to develop a digital Student Learner Profile which will be a game changing tool to keep a verified record of students' skills and achievements in the one place."
"I want to personally thank each of the outgoing members from the 2021 Taskforce for their passion and commitment to supporting young people in regional NSW and urge every young person who is passionate about their community to make the time to apply for next year."
Travel costs and accommodation will be covered for Regional Youth Taskforce members travelling across NSW for meetings.
Applications are open until Friday, November 19 at www.nsw.gov.au/regional-nsw.
