Throughout December and January, kids will have the opportunity to learn circus skills, create upcycled treasures, play giant games, learn all about crystals, and test their Hogwarts knowledge with Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit.
The library is also offering sensory storytime for the first time. Designed for children with disability and kids who feel overwhelmed by noises and crowds, these sessions combine storytelling with sensory aids to help kids feel calm and comfortable.
Sensory storytime aids were purchased with a $1500 grant from National Backyard Cricket, a program run by national charity The LBW Trust, which fundraises for education projects at country libraries across Australia.
Library services coordinator, Rose-marie Walters is encouraging local parents and carers to check out what's on offer for kids at our libraries during the upcoming holidays.
"We have a full program of fun COVID-safe events at both Cessnock and Kurri Kurri library branches over summer. Our libraries are fantastic places for children to learn a new skill, be creative, make new friends and, most of all, have fun," Ms Walters said.
Numbers are limited and booking is essential for each of the school holiday events.
For the full program or to book your place, drop into one of the library branches and pick up a flyer, call 4993 4399, or visit www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/libraries.
