Joshua Cummings benefit event to be held at the Bradford Hotel

Almost two months later, the 25-year-old from Branxton is still undergoing intensive, exhausting surgeries and has been transferred to Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney.

A charity ride to raise money for Josh's recovery will motor through Newcastle and the Central Coast on Sunday, March 6, as riders make their way to the Bradford Hotel at Rutherford for a benefit event from 1pm.

The benefit will have lots to see with exciting raffles, auctions, and performances by DJ & K, Area-51 and Katie Jayne Band.

The gofundme fundraiser for Josh's recovery, organised by his parents Michelle and Murray Byfield, has raised over $33,000 which will be used for anything Josh needs, whether it's home modifications, travel expenses, medical costs.

Josh's mother, Michelle Byfield, said Josh has had a few set backs in his recovery, and is currently undergoing a lot more surgery and plastic surgery on his left hand.

"His leg's ready for the osseointegration, but his hand is still quite scary," Ms Byfield said.

"He is really trying to keep positive, considering everything that's happening.

"He had a fairly extensive left side skin graft and lost his left leg from above the knee, so all left side injuries."

Ms Byfield said funds raised from gofundme and the benefit ride will go towards anything Josh needs, and so far the funds have been needed to make home modifications to accommodate the wheelchair Josh will have when he comes home.

The amount of community support their family has received has been overwhelming, according to Ms Byfield.

"It brings tears to my eyes, it's been overwhelming and the sheer amount of support we've had from friends, the musical community and the riding clubs... we're absolutely blown away," she said.

"Our friend Keeley Ward has organised everything for this, so all I can do is thank her forever.

"She's been amazing and said 'just don't think about it, leave it with me', so it's going to be a great day and it takes my speech away when I think about it.

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude."

Ms Byfield said Josh is shocked by the support he's received, and said he was blown away and humbled.
