A builder by trade for 45 years, 76-year-old Denis and his wife Candace ran the Paxton newsagency for eight years before selling the business and moving to Cessnock.
Denis said he has enjoyed every moment he has had as a member of Probus and was keen to welcome more members who could share the good times on offer.
He added that meetings are held once a month with a guest speaker and morning tea, sharing in the fellowship of like minds. Membership is not expensive and members and their friends can enjoy the excursions on offer, be they day trips and or extended tours to some wonderful locations.
Denis said along with plans to attract new retirees he would be suggesting members consider forming a local walking group and fun choir to expand on the normal meeting activities.
Denis took up his new position at the club's changeover lunch recently where a highlight was the awarding of life membership to activities officer George Campbell.
