But yesterday, the club, which ended its season in the first week of finals, was faced with another scandal about its players' attitudes towards women.
On the grand final edition of Channel Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night, St Kilda player Sam Fisher partly undressed while dancing with a skimpily dressed woman around a pole, enraging some viewers who thought it was inappropriate given the club's off-field scandals this year.
St Kilda yesterday apologised for The Footy Show skit and said it did not represent the club's values.
The club said it was not aware of the segment before it was broadcast and said it was disappointed with Channel Nine and The Footy Show.
"The segment certainly did not represent the values we aspire to at the St Kilda Football Club," the club said in a statement.
''At no point was the club informed of the nature or content of the segment. The St Kilda Football Club would like to sincerely apologise for any offence caused.''
The club said The Footy Show had come up with the skit that also involved five St Kilda players acting in a nightclub scene and Fisher cavorting and drinking with a woman on a couch.
A St Kilda spokeswoman declined to comment when asked if Fisher would face any disciplinary action.
It follows a season the club would rather forget.
At the start of the year, two players were embroiled in a naked photo scandal. A teenage girl released nude photographs of captain Nick Riewoldt and teammate Nick Dal Santo, after being romantically involved with another player.
Meanwhile, former Saint Andrew Lovett was acquitted in a rape trial.
