In the next few weeks alone we have a seniors health workshop, an author visit by Jannette Paul, a free touring display featuring the iconic artwork of Australian children’s author May Gibbs and much more.
Our library service may be small compared to other metropolitan council areas but they certainly think big. We have launched Wollombi’s Little Library and also the Innovation Lab, a reflection of our staff’s dedication and forward-thinking attitude.
POOL SEASON SHAPING UP TO BE A GREAT ONE
The Cessnock local government area has certainly experienced a warm start to spring and over the long weekend it was fantastic to open our pools to the public.
Thank you to Branxton pool users who were patient and waited for the Branxton Pool to open slightly late on Monday, after urgent repairs were undertaken. You can now enjoy comfortable water temperatures with the new heating pumps in operation.
The 2017-18 pool season is shaping up to be a great one with Council introducing extended hours in extreme heat conditions and also offering a new promotion to give more people the opportunity to experience the pools over summer. The promotion kicks off from the first Sunday in the Christmas school holidays and will run until the last Sunday in February. Families will be able to access the pools free of charge from 10am until close on Sundays during that period and enjoy the great facilities.
RECOGNITION FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES
The Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards were a great success and we should be proud of our local businesses.
The recognition of hardworking and innovative business owners is vital, small businesses are the backbone of our thriving local economy. Congratulations to all the nominees and award winners, especially to Luke Ahearn who took out the Young Entrepreneur of the Year for his business Thread and Ink Cessnock.
Our community also has the opportunity to recognise locals for outstanding customer service at the Cessnock Customer Service Awards, which will be presented this Friday.
The Cessnock Chamber of Commerce do a great job in putting the event on, allowing people in the LGA delivering first-class service to be commended for their efforts.
Congratulations to those nominated, including the staff here at Cessnock City Council.
POLICE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES
The ‘More Police on the Beat’ campaign continues and if you haven’t signed our online petition, it is not too late.
The campaign calls on the NSW Government to give our local police the resources they need to keep our community safe.
