Buskers from the Wine Country Music Association have been performing on the main street as part of the Cessnock City Seniors Festival.
Association president Tom Irwin said the members are excited to be involved with the festival.
All money raised by the buskers will go to Cessnock-based organisation Soupz On, which provides meals for the city’s homeless on Friday and Saturday nights in Darwin Street.
Mr Irwin said the music association was proud to support such a worthwhile cause.
“We admire the work that they do,” he said.
“A lot of people don’t realise there are homeless people in Cessnock, but there are.”
Over the past six years, Wine Country Music Association has raised more than $30,000 for charities, including the Buy A Bale drought relief campaign, Cessnock Hospital, the Rural Fire Service and the Cancer Council.
A multi-genre music club, it has about 70 members and puts on a free concert at the Abermain Plaza Hall on the second Saturday of the month from 6pm to 10.30pm. All are welcome to come along, bring an instrument and join the fun, with food and drink available.
Members will be entertaining in Sternbeck Park at the Cessnock Stomp Festival this Sunday, and their Seniors Festival performances will continue in Vincent Street on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week.
The Seniors Festival continues until March 17, with a jam-packed program of arts, culture, fitness, learning, history, and special interest events.
