This term the children have been busy working on a body of work that showcases both creativity and skill to display during Youth Week at the PCYC.
Artist educator Emmie Hallett said the groups have been working on a range of art practice techniques, including learning to work standing at an easel in the gallery space and painting on beautiful quality papers.
They are enjoying producing mixed media pieces using water colour, acrylic paint, gold leaf, pencil, pastel and collage.
"It has been wonderful to see the children rise to challenge of creating art works that they feel proud to display and to see their expressive skills develop as they think about what they want people to understand from their art works,” Ms Hallett said.
“The opportunity to work towards an exhibition has given a new depth of meaning to learning technical skills for art making as well as sense of progress towards a wonderful goal!”
Ms Hallett said the gallery is delighted to be partnering with the PCYC for the exhibition.
“Both are local community facilities that believe in celebrating positive learning opportunities for young people,” she said.
The exhibition will officially open with a morning tea at 10am on Friday, April 20, and all are welcome.
The PCYC will also hold an open day that day, for people to come and try the range of activities on offer.
The works will remain on display during PCYC open hours until the following Friday.
The gallery offers after-school art classes for children on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 5.30pm with artist educators Katrina Rose and Emmie Hallett.
