ORIGINAL REPORT: OCTOBER 22 2019 - 10:43AM
The Kurri Kurri Community Festival will be held in Rotary Park this Saturday, with a jam-packed day of entertainment for the whole family.
The festival was first held in 2011 in the lead-up to the opening of the Hunter Expressway, with the aim to create a similar atmosphere as the Kurri Kurri Civic Week celebrations of the 1970s.
Kurri Kurri Community Services took over the running of the festival last year, and continued the event's great success.
The festival will be open at 10am, and will include performances by local singers Abbey Henderson, Zoe Barbour, Reese Hamilton, the Mai-Wel Band, Chelsea White, Jayden Brett, Kiara Silva, Abbi-Lea Robinson, Tara Naysmith, the Pat Eyre trio and Dan Killen.
Students from Weston Public School, Kurri Kurri Public School, Kurri Kurri High School, Kurri Kurri District Preschool, and Holy Spirit Primary School will perform at the festival, along with dancers from Kasey Carr Dance HQ, the Break a Way dancers and Shayne's Tap N Groove, plus gymnastics and Tae Kwon Do demonstrations.
There will also be food, markets, rides, face painting and more.
The community festival will conclude with a screening of Bumblebee at sundown (bring your own chair or picnic rug). It is an alcohol-free event.
