Visiting speakers will present a series of fascinating lectures throughout the year, ranging from Sidney Nolan to Art Deco Sydney to the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The society also continues its long-running support for local schools, via book raffles and fundraising events.
Now in its fourth year, the ADFAS Pokolbin Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship was awarded at the society's April lecture.
Cessnock High School students Claire Davies (for photography) and Emily Purvis (for drawing and artwork) received scholarship encouragement awards to the value of $250 each, which will help support their 2022 Higher School Certificate artistic endeavours.
ADFAS Pokolbin chairman, Professor Bob Lusby and young arts coordinator Debra McGuigan were proud to present Claire's certificate at the lecture on April 11. Emily was disappointed to be unable to attend on the evening.
The society's next lecture - The Genius of Vincent Van Gogh - will be held at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Monday, May 9. Presented by Peter McPhee, the lecture starts at 7pm, with supper and Hunter Valley wines to follow. Visitors are welcome; tickets are $35 per lecture.
