It was all part of Lights, Camera, Action, Cessnock East’s whole-school project for term one.
There were smiles all round from the ‘stars’ (students) who were welcomed back to school for 2018 by their adoring fans, the teachers and staff.
Students were met at the school gate by autograph hunters and the paparazzi, all clamouring to see the stars walk down the red carpet, with many being interviewed by celebrity reporter ‘Chuck Awobbly’ for Star TV.
A stretch limousine with a tuxedo-wearing limo driver provided the perfect backdrop as the stars eagerly awaited to see which teacher won the highly-coveted ‘Eastcar’ to be their class teacher.
Excitement filled the air as nominations from a quality field of contenders were read out by the master of ceremonies, Mr Simmons.
Students and their families were delighted with the winners and are eagerly looking forward to experiencing another year of educational fun and learning success.
To further immerse students in the project and showcase an exemplar production, students in years 1 to 6 travelled to Sydney on Wednesday to see the theatre production The Wizard of Oz.
Cessnock East Public School principal Kim Sweeny said the school continues to be at the forefront of educational excellence and 21st century learning as demonstrated by the start of this term’s school-wide project.
“Cessnock East Public School has been engaging their students in REAL projects for the third year running gaining outstanding student results,” Ms Sweeny said.
“With three project cycles per year, students are immersed in rigorous, engaging, authentic learning (REAL) which encompasses all key learning areas in order to deliver quality, rich learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.
“Our Lights, Camera, Action project will develop, cultivate and highlight the creative skills and talents of all students and will be shared with the local and wider community by way of an online audience, TV viewers, as well as those who attend the end-of-project film festival, which promises to be another wonderful event that will showcase the student success of Cessnock East Public School.”
